According to the recently released IMV 2023 Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Service Outlook Report, the average priority rating for implementing or expanding predictive maintenance programs for imaging equipment service in 2023 is 4.9 out of 7.
In terms of hospital size, 300- to 399-bed hospitals received the highest average rating at 5.5 out of 7, while hospitals with less than 100 beds had the lowest rating at 4.4 out of 7. In terms of location, urban sites received the highest rating at 5.3 out of 7, while rural sites had the lowest at 4.3 out of 7. This suggests that larger hospitals and facilities in urban areas are more likely to prioritize the use of predictive maintenance service features for their diagnostic imaging equipment.
The leading imaging modalities where predictive maintenance features are deemed most important are CT, as indicated by 83% of respondents, MRI at 72%, and ultrasound at 44%.Respondents highlighted that the primary advantage of employing predictive maintenance in servicing imaging equipment is to enhance the equipment’s reliability, cited by 64% of respondents. Conversely, the top concern related to using predictive maintenance is the fear of unnecessary maintenance procedures and expenses, cited by 42% of respondents, along with uncertainty about its impact on key performance metrics, as stated by 38% of respondents.
In terms of different methods for delivering diagnostic imaging services for imaging equipment, the predominant approach is preventative maintenance, utilized by 92% of sites, followed by reactive (break fix) at 60%, predictive maintenance at 26%, and outcome-based at 20%.
In relation to predictive maintenance services, 38% of survey participants stated that integrating or extending a predictive maintenance service program is a top priority (rated 6 or 7 out of 7) for their company. This stands in contrast to the 10% of respondents who considered it a low priority (rated 1 or 2 out of 7), resulting in an overall positive rating of 28%.
