How to Deal with the Potential Risks of High Pressure Injectors in CT Scans?

The previous article (titled “The Potential Risks of High Pressure Injector Use during a CT Scan“) talked about the possible risks of high-pressure syringes in CT scans. So how to deal with these risks? This article will answer you one by one.

medical imaging

Potential Risk 1: Contrast media allergy

Responses:

1. Strictly screen augmentation patients and inquire about allergy and family history.

2. Because allergic reactions to contrast agents are unpredictable, when a patient has a history of allergies to other drugs, CT room staff should discuss with clinicians, patients and family members whether to perform enhanced CT, and inform them in detail about the effects and side effects of contrast agents, pay attention to the discussion process.

3. Rescue medicines and equipment are on standby, and emergency plans for severe allergic reactions are in place.

4. In the event of a severe allergic reaction, keep the patient’s informed consent form, the doctor’s prescription, and the drug packaging.

Potential Risk 2: Contrast agent extravasation

Responses:

1. When selecting blood vessels for venipuncture, choose thick, straight, and elastic blood vessels.

2. Secure the puncture needle carefully to prevent it from rebounding during pressurized administration.

3. It is recommended to use intravenous indwelling needles to reduce the occurrence of extravasation.

Potential Risk 3: Contamination of high-pressure injector device

Responses:

The operating environment should be clean and tidy, and nurses should wash their hands carefully and wait until they are dry before operating. During the entire use of the high-pressure injector, the principle of aseptic operation must be strictly followed.

Potential Risk 4: Cross-infection

Responses:

Add a 30cm long small connecting tube between the outer tube of the high-pressure injector and the scalp needle.

Potential Risk 5: Air embolism

Responses:

1. The speed of inhaling the drug should be such that it does not cause air bubbles.

2. After exhausting, check whether there are bubbles in the outer tube and whether there is an air alarm in the machine.

3. Concentrate and observe carefully when exhausting.

Potential Risk 6: Patient thrombosis

Responses:

Instead of using an indwelling needle brought by the patient to administer high-pressure drugs, inject the contrast agent from the upper limbs as much as possible.

Potential Risk 7: trocar rupture during indwelling needle administration

Responses:

1. Use intravenous indwelling needles from regular manufacturers with acceptable quality.

2. When pulling out the trocar, do not apply pressure to the eye of the needle, pull it out slowly, and observe the integrity of the trocar after pulling it out.

3. PICC prohibits the use of high-pressure syringes.

4. Select the appropriate intravenous indwelling needle according to the speed of medication.

The high-pressure injector produced by LnkMed can display real-time pressure curves and has a pressure over-limit alarm function; it also has a machine head angle monitoring function to ensure that the machine head is facing down before injecting; It adopts an all-in-one equipment made of aviation aluminum alloy and medical stainless steel, so the whole injector is leak-proof. Its function also ensures safety: Air purge locking function, which means the injection is inaccessible before air purging once this function starts. Injection can be halted at any time by pressing the stop button.

All of LnkMed‘s high-pressure injectors (CT single injector,CT double head injector, MRI contrast media injector and Angiography high pressure injector)have been sold to China and many countries around the world. We believe that our products will receive more and more recognition, and we are also working towards making product quality better and better. Looking forward to the opportunity to work with you!
